Temazcal

Temazcal are a type of sauna or sweat lodge made from volcanic rock and cement. They've been around since the existence of indigenous cultures in parts of Mexico and Central America and are still used for ceremonies to cleanse the mind, body and spirit. Upon entering each person stopped at the doorway to ask for permission for ourselves and the relationships we carry to enter. The steam is created by pouring water over heater volcanic rocks and herbs are used for medicinal purposes. Each person chose an intention for the ceremony and we chanted and sang (or mumbled and hummed in Spanglish) throughout the ceremony.

This one is located in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico.

Buenos Dias!
